Service and Activity Budget

A small portion of each student’s tuition is designated by the state legislature and the Board of Trustees to be allocated for student programs and activities outside the classroom. These funds are allocated in such a way as to reflect the needs and interests of the greatest number of Seattle Central students with a broad spectrum of services and activities that support the mission and core values of Seattle Central College.

RCW and Policy

District policy requires that services and activities fees collected by the District are used to achieve objectives for a comprehensive educational experience for all enrolled students in accordance with the RCW 28B.15. 041-.045.  Seattle Community College District Policy and Procedures 345.10 states:

The recognized student government organization shall develop, in cooperation with the student services administration and professional staff, procedures for budget development, composition and operating procedures of the services and activities fees committee, and all other services and activities budget matters. Such provision shall be adopted as part of the approved student government constitution for each campus and prepared for approval by the Board of Trustees.

Yearly Process

The Service and Activities (S&A) Budget Committee, chaired by the ASC Finance Executive, includes six "at large" students who review and recommend S&A allocations for college departments that provide student activities and programs. The proposed budget is then sent to the President and Board of Trustees for approval. A summary of 2019-20 S&A expenditures can be found within this document
