To our community

Seattle Central College stands in solidarity with our community marchers against police violence towards Black people.

Our commitment to this cause is not tempered by any formal relationship with Seattle Police Department. We do not have any current contracts or arrangements with Seattle Police, other than a legally required agreement for assistance during an emergency. Police officers may only enter our premises during a hot pursuit, with a warrant, or with explicit permission. None of these have happened during these demonstrations.

The public spaces on our campus have traditionally served as a gathering place for major social justice movements of the past 50 years. We are glad to steadfastly continue that role during these demonstrations.

In solidarity,

Sheila Edwards Lange, PhD

President, Seattle Central College
