For Black history month last year, a diorama was created of the March on Washington which was a massive collaboration of multiple Civil Rights organization’s protest march that occurred in August 1963 when some 250,000 people gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. for the right to work/obtain a job and freedom. The event aimed to draw attention to continuing challenges and inequalities faced by African Americans and people of color a century after emancipation. In an effort to highlight the necessity of solidarity amongst people in the year 2019 not only from the United States, but also abroad, students, faculty, staff, and members of the community, were asked to show support for the efforts of Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights activists by “dropping a pin” on the diorama for support of Civil Rights. Students, faculty, staff, and community members were also given the opportunity to write their own personal dream, whatever it may be, to be tossed in the diorama’s reflecting pool. The intention is for the diorama to be sustainable. Allowing people for years to come to be able to reflect upon their own dreams as well as others from a different period of time.

Please take some time to reflect on the past and upcoming year and share with us what some of your hopes and dreams are for the future for us to keep building upon last year's hopes and dream. Thank you.
